Mad4Trad

07 May 24

We were Mad4Trad and Ceol Crazy in Rua Red on Tuesday April 30th when Music Generation South Dublin, Claire Sherry Music and the South Dublin County Arts Office launched Mad4Trad. We were delighted and honored to welcome Councilor Charlie O Connor to join us to open the event. The surprise of the evening was a magical appearance from Mundy.

‘It was a rare occasion for so many young performers from the County to share the stage with one of Ireland’s leading songwriters and performers. Truly inspirational!’ according to Orla Scannell, Arts Officer.

Mad4Trad is an initiative that aims to encourage all young performers to develop confidence and musical skill through performance on exciting platforms.  For the first eventwe warmly welcomed the children and young people, teachers, principals and parents from Gael Scoil na Camoige, Clondalkin and Scoil Mhuire, Lucan; both schools, mentored by Claire Sherry, a highly accomplished musician and All Ireland winner in multiple instruments; she inspired on the evening with her playing, accompanied by musician educator, Stephen Fagan.

Mundy has written some wonderful songs such as ‘To you I Bestow’ which featured on Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet movie soundtrack. Since 1996 Mundy has released 8 Albums showcasing his eclectic styles from Rock, Americana, Folk and Indie. Six of these albums have been Top Ten. Mundy has enjoyed gold and multi-platinum record sales and a Meteor award for Steve Earle’s ‘Galway Girl’ and as they say – the rest is history!

At the end of all the children and young people played us out with a rousing version of Mundy’s hit ‘Galway Girl. The place was packed and everyone went home happy.
