Adamstown Road (R120) and Nangor Road (R134) Improvement Scheme

The project involves re-alignment of the existing Adamstown (R120) and Nangor (R134) Regional Roads in West Dublin, immediately adjacent to Grange Castle Business Park.

 The Project consists of the construction of:

  • 3.5Km of new Single Carriageway Road
  • 3.5Km of footpath and cycle track on both sides of the carriageway way
  • 2 Signal Controlled Junctions
  • The widening of an existing Bridge over the Grand Canal
  • In excess of 10,000m of Ducting for High Voltage ESB cables
  • Ancillary Accommodation and Drainage Works,
  • Traffic and Pedestrian Management associated with the above works in the vicinity of existing regional Roads.
    The Adamstown Road (R120) and Nangor Road (R134) Improvement Scheme were initially progressed as two separate schemes i.e. the Adamstown Road Improvement Scheme and the Nangor Road Improvement Scheme. To complete the detailed design and construction of both schemes they have been merged into one scheme since September 2015.

The Part 8 Public Consultation Process has been completed as follows:

The Nangor Road (R134) Improvement Scheme was advertised under Part 8 Public Consultant process on the 28th October 2004. The decision to proceed without amendment was made at County Council Meeting on 14th March 05. The Adamstown Road (R120) Improvement Scheme was advertised under Part 8 Public Consultant process on the 16th August 2012. As a result of the public consultation process the following amendment was made to the scheme:

  • Re-alignment of the vehicular access to the former Univar site and northeast towpath
    in order to avoid the canal millrace.

Following this a Report with revised drawings based on the Part 8 and the written submissions was submitted to:

1. The members of the Council’s Clondalkin Area Committee Meeting on Wednesday 21st November 2012 for their comments.

2. The members of the Council’s Lucan Area Committee Meeting on Tuesday 27th November 2012 for their comments.

 The Council approved the Report (including the revised drawings) on 10th December 2012.

Land Acquisition CPO Orders have been confirmed as follows:

South Dublin County Council Compulsory Purchase Nangor Road Improvement Scheme, Order 2006.

An order was made on the 31st March 2006 to acquire the lands by CPO to be submitted to the Board for confirmation. An Bord Pleanála confirmed CPO without modification on 24th August 2006.

 South Dublin County Council Compulsory Purchase (Adamstown Road (R120) Improvement Scheme) Order, 2015.

An order was made on the 29th July 2015 to acquire the lands by CPO to be submitted to the Board for confirmation. An Bord Pleanála confirmed CPO without modification on 23rd December 2015.

 

 The Adamstown Road (R120) and Nangor Road (R134) Improvement Scheme received funding. The scheme was tendered and Wills Bros Limited were appointed as the main contractor for the Adamstown Road (R120) and Nangor Road (R134) Improvement Scheme in November 2017. Construction of the scheme started in December 2017 and it is envisioned that the work should be completed by the first quarter 2019.
