Clonburris SDZ 2008

Clonburris will be an exemplar of best practice in sustainable development, place-making and urban design. It will realise the full potential of its high accessibility by public transport, its canal-side location, and its critical mass. This will be a new eco-district that will set new standards for environmental urban expansion and act as a focus for new mixed-use development in the Greater Dublin Area.

South Dublin County Council prepared a Plan for the development of the lands at Clonburris near Clondalkin. The Plan comprises both a Strategic Development Zone Planning Scheme and a Local Area Plan. The boundary of the Plan area can be viewed here. A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) was prepared in respect of the Plan.

The Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) Planning Scheme, approved by An Bord Pleanála 5th November 2008, provides a framework for the future development of the Clonburris area. A Local Area Plan (LAP) has a six year lifespan and the Clonburris LAP expired in April 2014.  A review of both the SDZ and LAP is currently underway.
