SDCC Scoop Council of the Year at LAMA Awards
SDCC scooped the Council of the Year Award at the 2026 LAMA All Ireland Community and Council Awards, held on 28 February in the Dublin Royal Convention Centre.
This year marked the 20th Anniversary of the annual awards ceremony and 40 years of the LAMA executive. These awards shine a spotlight on the incredible collaboration between communities and councils. They provide a platform to showcase outstanding local initiatives, honour unsung heroes, and acknowledge the remarkable contributions that enrich and strengthen our communities.
Speaking on the night, Chief Executive Colm Ward said; “We are incredibly humbled to receive this award, to get the recognition of councillors is phenomenal. We have a great team, great staff, great councillors, community groups and partners who all work every day to create opportunities and deliver real change for our communities.”
SDCC also took home the Best Enterprise and Startup Hub category for WorkIQ. Representing major investment in the local economy, WorkIQ is more than just an office space for start-ups and growing enterprises in South Dublin. It is a purpose-built innovation centre in the heart of the new Innovation Square. Strategically located; it features modern and flexible office and coworking space for up to 60 businesses, plus outstanding meeting rooms and conference facilities and is connected to lour local district heating network and easily accessible by public transport.
Mayor of South Dublin, Cllr. Pamela Kearns who accepted the award on behalf of the council also expressed her delight. Speaking to compère on the night; Marty Whelan, Mayor Kearns said; “We have the most amazing staff who work really close with us as councillors to constantly improve people’s lives in our community. This work is coming to fruition now and I’m enormously proud of the work of everyone involved.”
SDCC were shortlisted in eight categories overall - other projects shortlisted were the Grand Canal Greenway in Best Community Scale Enhancements, Corkagh Park Regeneration in Best Transformative Capital Project, Connecting communities through the regeneration of West Tallaght Parks in Community Wellbeing Initiative, Parthalán Place in Reimagining Public Places, Innovation Apartments in Best Sustainable Infrastructure and the Tesco Community Fund was shortlisted in the Best CSR Project in a Community for their work in Lucan.
The council was also recently named Local Authority of the Year at the 2025 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards in November, marking an incredible double honour for SDCC. We are extremely grateful for this recognition and remain dedicated to serving South Dublin with clarity, confidence, and compassion.
