Road Safety Strategy 2026-2030
Mayor of SDCC Cllr.Pamela Kearns officially launched the 'Road Safety Strategy 2026-2030’ on Friday 26 June 2026
Mayor of South Dublin Cllr Pamela Kearns said ‘‘
I am pleased to launch South Dublin County Council’s new‘ Road Safety Strategy 2026-2030’. We acknowledge the devasting human cost of road trauma on our roads and the lifelong impact it has on those who have lost loved ones. We will deliver this strategy through the Safe System approach, recognizing that while people make mistakes, our transport network must be designed and managed, so those errors never result in death or life-changing injuries. We ask everyone who lives, works, studies or travels in South Dublin to play their part, choose safe road use behaviours, look out for each other and remember, we all share the road together and want to arrive alive. This is a proud moment for South Dublin County Council so let us play our part in reducing road deaths and serious injuries by 50% over the next decade to achieve VISION Zero by 2050.
Road Safety Officer at South Dublin County Council Orlaith Maguiresaid ‘ This Road Safety Strategy 2026-2030’ is our road to achieving Vision Zero. (i.e. zero road deaths or serious injuries by 2050) This strategy sets out a plan for South Dublin County Council (SDCC) to achieve Ireland’s long-term goal. It closely aligns with the ‘Government of Ireland’s Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030’ and will be delivered with a heightened focus on the provision of improved infrastructure, road user behaviour, education and enforcement. The starting point is recognising that road deaths or serious injuries should not be the price to pay for our mobility. SDCC aims to be a county where it is safe for all road users to travel to and from their destination safely.
Inspector Michael Holihan of the National Roads Policing Bureau said ‘An Garda Síochána are delighted to support the launch of South Dublin County Council’s ‘Road Safety Strategy 2026 - 2030’. Collaboration from all stakeholders is key to achieving Vision Zero. Through continued partnership, SDCC and AGS are endeavouring to make our roads safer and ensure the number of serious injury and fatal collisions are reduced.
