Another Milestone Reached for Tallaght Stadium

A new attendance record was set in Tallaght Stadium at last night's derby between Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians as 6,414 fans turned up to watch the league leaders Rovers play their close rivals.

A number of well-known faces were also in the crowd, including President Michael D. Higgins, Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy, under-21s manager Stephen Kenny and Tallaght born Robbie Keane.

This achievement is just another feather in the cap of the South Dublin County Council owned stadium, which has recently seen its capacity increase to 8,000 with the opening of the new South Stand. The near €2,500,000 cost of the expansion was funded entirely by the Council.

South Dublin County Council has plans for further expansion of the stadium in the near future, having commissioned a report from Cooney Architects in recent months that explored the option of developing the North Stand in Tallaght Stadium and boosting capacity to 10,000. The report made recommendations on developing improved press facilities and seating as well as additional corporate facilities on a new second floor to be developed in the existing Main Stand. It is anticipated that this work will be progressed in line with the Part 8 process this year.

As well as being home to Shamrock Rovers, Tallaght Stadium has also recently been chosen as a host venue for the UEFA European U/17 Championship, being held in Ireland from the 3rd to 19th May 2019. There are sixteen teams taking part in the tournament, with seven games to be played in Tallaght, including a quarter-final, semi-final and the Final on Sunday 19th May.

With the current form of Shamrock Rovers and the plans in place by South Dublin County Council, the present and the future of Tallaght Stadium looks extremely bright.
