Storm Lorenzo Update
South Dublin County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team is monitoring the situation with Storm Lorenzo and is in receipt of updates from both Met Eireann and the National Directorate of Fire and Emergency Management. There is a status yellow wind and rain warning in place for the Dublin region effective from Thursday 03 October 2019 09:00 to Friday 04 October 2019 09:00.
A meeting of the Severe Weather Assessment Team took place Tuesday and Wednesday to review our preparedness for the storm and to plan the work in the days ahead leading up to the storm and the aftermath. Further meetings will occur over the coming days as this weather event develops.
South Dublin County Council has a Severe Weather Plan and a Flood Plan for these weather events, which will be put into action as required.
Maintenance crews are preparing for the storm and will be available and on standby to respond and deal with emergencies over the period.
South Dublin County Council will update the public through social media and the Council’s web site. Weather updates can be found at https://www.met.ie/warnings.
The Council would advise the public to only travel if it is absolutely necessary and to drive carefully if you do so. There is likely to be standing water and localised ponding on some roads. Be alert to falling debris and the possible danger in the vicinity of trees.
Please ensure that any mobile items in their properties be tied down for the duration of the storm, particularly items such as wheelie bins need to be secured for the duration of the storm.
Due to high winds, there is potential for power outages and people can take steps to be prepared for this. We would also like to ask people to check in on vulnerable neighbours today ahead of the storm hitting.
The winter-ready booklet produced by the OEP gives information on being prepared, providing practical advice for coping during episodes of severe weather, as well as giving contact details of organisations and agencies that can provide guidance and assistance. The main message is simple - be prepared, stay safe and know where to find help should you need it.
