It has been an extremely busy end of year period for South Dublin County Council so we thought we'd bring you a wrap up of five big news items you might have missed in the last few weeks.
1. SDCC Secures Funding for Innovative Tallaght District Heating System
South Dublin County Council's innovative Tallaght District Heating Scheme is one of seven major climate change projects to receive funding through under the Government's new Climate Action Fund.

2. Community Endeavour Awards 2018
The Community Endeavour Awards took place in the Red Cow Moran’s Hotel on Saturday the 1st of December. Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Mark Ward, was on hand to present the awards to the winning groups.
3. Construction of 81 Older Persons' Homes Approved
At last Monday’s Council meeting, elected members voted by a nearly two-to-one margin to progress with the proposed construction of 81 social homes for older persons on land situated between Seán Walsh Park, Tallaght Stadium and Whitestown Way, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
The development will consist of 63 one bed apartments and 18 two bedroom apartments and will be designated as Older Persons’ accommodation – meaning tenancies will only be allocated to persons aged 55 and over and with priority given to persons aged 65 and over.
4. South Dublin County Council and Fingal County Council Launch Quad and Scrambler Bike Safety Campaign
South Dublin County Council and Fingal County Council launched a joint public awareness campaign to highlight the dangers quad bikes and scramblers pose to children, and to urge parents not to gift them this Christmas.
5. Power Surge for South Dublin County Council with Launch of Electric Council Vehicles
South Dublin County Council is going green with the purchase of 5 Citroen
The first of a fleet of new Electric Council Vehicles was launched this week by the Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Mark Ward.
