SDCC Recognition at LAMA All-Ireland Community & Council Awards

South Dublin County Council was one of the standout winners at the prestigious Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) Community & Council Awards 2025. The awards ceremony, held on Saturday, February 22, at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork City, celebrated the incredible contributions made by local authorities, communities, and individuals across Ireland. This year, South Dublin County Council proudly claimed three top awards, highlighting its commitment to sustainable development, community wellbeing, and environmental innovation.

South Dublin County Council was honoured with the National Impact Award for Clonburris: A Transformative Vision and a Model for Sustainable Urban Development. This project was lauded for its ambitious approach to sustainable urban planning, focusing on creating a vibrant, eco-friendly community for future generations.

In addition to the National Impact Award, we also won the Local Authority Energy Decarbonisation Award for the Heatworks District Heating Scheme, an innovative project designed to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability in the region.

In addition, South Dublin community volunteer Bernie Roche was named Community Volunteer of the Year for her tireless efforts to improve the lives of those around her in her local area.

Deputy Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr Alan Hayes commented “As Deputy Mayor, I am immensely proud of the innovative spirit and dedication demonstrated by staff and management in South Dublin County Council. It is also fitting that we recognise the huge dedication by community volunteers like Bernie Roche and I believe that these awards reflect our commitment to building a sustainable, thriving community for future generations. It’s a true honour to be part of a team that leads by example in transforming our County for the better."

Colm Ward, Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council commented “It is wonderful to see this recognition on a national stage for transformative projects spearheaded by this council in urban development and energy decarbonisation as we seek to meet the needs and ambition of everyone in South Dublin now and in the future. I particularly want to thank all of our staff involved in the winning and shortlisted projects which reflect our ongoing vision to create greater opportunity for all in our county.” 

The LAMA Awards, which are now in their 19th year, continue to grow in stature, with 311 nominations from local councils across Ireland. The awards cover a wide range of categories, recognising outstanding community projects, partnerships, and individuals who have made a lasting impact. This year’s competition was fierce, with 137 shortlisted projects spanning 27 categories.

The Awards provide a platform to celebrate the tireless efforts of local authorities across Ireland and acknowledge the essential role that local communities play in driving positive change. South Dublin County Council is proud to be part of this vibrant network of councils dedicated to improving the lives of citizens through innovation, collaboration, and sustainability.
