Mayor officially opened the MUGAs in Sean Walsh Park, Rathcoole Park, and Clondalkin Park
On Thursday the 16th November 2023, the Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr. Alan Edge officially opened the MUGAs in Sean Walsh Park, Rathcoole Park, and Clondalkin Park.
Speaking at the event Mayor Cllr. Alan Edge said:
These active recreation facilities are essential elements of a successful park, they contribute to community well-being, encouraging social interaction and physical fitness. The MUGA has quickly become a focal point for people of all ages, providing opportunities for activities like soccer and basketball, which, in turn, help improve motor coordination, flexibility, endurance, speed, agility, and strength.
The primary objective of upgrading the MUGA is to empower individuals to establish healthy habits, enabling them to enhance their physical and mental well-being through exercise in a public park.
I'm thrilled to see the MUGA gaining such popularity and extensive use.
The project was funded through the Community Recognition Fund. Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys and Minister of State Joe O’Brien, announced details of this National €50 million Community Recognition Fund in January 2023. South Dublin County Council were allocated €2,754,305. This major initiative, the first of its kind, is designed to specifically support communities across the country that have welcomed and are hosting families and citizens from Ukraine and other countries. The fund aims to support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community.
