Level 5 - October 2020 -Covid-19 Restrictions for Ireland

Due to current government restrictions, the libraries will not be open during this current lockdown period.
However, staff will be available Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm to answer your telephone calls and respond to emails if you have any queries about your library card, online events and online services.

Stewart's Library in Palmerstown will only be contactable by email

Unfortunately, we will not be operating a Call and Collect service at this time.

All online services will continue to be available 24/7. You will need a valid South Dublin library card, PIN and in some cases an email.

At this time, it is not possible to enter the library to browse books, to study, or to use computers or the printing service.

Thank you for your patience as we operate this skeleton system for the duration of level 5.

Social media - Over the past few months South Dublin Libraries have been running online events, uploading online Storytime for children and increasing engagement with following through our social media platforms and websites with podcasts , blogs, and videos promoting the range of eservices we have. Keep an eye on our social media Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates and online events.

There are 7 branch libraries, as well as 4 mobile libraries providing a wide range of stops across South Dublin County.

Opening Hours

All library will operate an email and telephone service only during level 5 October 2020 from 9.30-5pm Monday to Friday. The hours below operate only outside the Covid-19 lockdown period.

County Library, Tallaght
  • Monday to Thursday 9.45am to 8pm
  • Friday to Saturday 9.45am to 4.30pm
  • Closed Saturdays and Mondays of Bank Holiday Weekends
Ballyroan Library, Rathfarnham
  • Monday to Thursday 9.45am to 8pm
  • Friday to Saturday 9.45am to 4.30pm
  • Closed Saturdays and Mondays of Bank Holiday Weekends
Castletymon Library, Tallaght
  • THIS LIBRARY IS NOW CLOSED AND CONSTRUCTION ON A NEW LIBRARY IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY, EXPECTED 2020.
  • The mobile library van will be available on Thursday afternoons from 2.00pm - 4.00pm outside St. Aengus's Community Centre.
Clondalkin Library
  • Monday to Thursday 9.45am to 8pm
  • Friday to Saturday 9.45am to 4.30pm
  • Closed Saturdays and Mondays of Bank Holiday Weekends
