National Spring Clean 2022 launched in South Dublin

The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Peter Kavanagh, in the company of Clondalkin Tidy Towns launched National Spring Clean on Friday 1st April.

National Spring Clean traditionally takes place in the month of April and over the last 23 years, the campaign has been delivered by South Dublin County Council, with An Taisce and an army of volunteers who have played a vital role in creating a cleaner environment and improving the quality of life for people in our area.

The campaign has enjoyed immense success during this period. The key to solving our litter problem is to continue to foster a public attitude that takes pride in a clean environment and looks upon littering as unacceptable behavior.

In 2021 94 groups signed up for National Spring Clean and we are hoping for a similar turnout in 2022.

At the launch Mayor Cllr Peter Kavanagh commented: “National Spring Clean is about communities coming together to tackle litter and encourages individuals and groups to get involved in local clean-up events.

The National Spring Clean is also an opportunity for volunteers to take local actions to make a change at a global scale. As a matter of fact, over the last couple of years, the National Spring Clean has also been trying to raise awareness about another crucial issue: the link between litter and climate change – the biggest challenge of our time – and highlight how combined local actions can have a global effect. Our consumption patterns and how we dispose and treat our waste has a substantial impact on the levels of emissions of several greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change.

South Dublin County Council is asking for the people in their area, across all sectors and walks of life, to get involved and sign up. The campaign provides people an opportunity to support a proactive initiative, help improve the environment, and importantly, be a positive influence for the next generation.
