The sod-turning event was attended by the Minister for Housing James Browne, Mayor of South Dublin County Cllr. Pamela Kearns, representatives from the ‘Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund, (formerly the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF)), project stakeholders and the main contractor, Kilwex.

South Dublin County Council (SDCC) is delivering the new park in partnership with Evara, one of Ireland’s largest private housebuilders, as part of the long-term vision for Adamstown. Following the formal opening of SDCC delivered projects known as Airlie Park and Tandy’s Lane Park, Central Boulevard Park will further enhance the provision of high-quality public open space for residents and visitors.

This URDF-funded project forms part of our wider commitment to supporting Adamstown’s continued growth through the delivery of accessible, sustainable and well-connected neighbourhood infrastructure. Central Boulevard Park will provide a high-quality public space that integrates existing natural features, including established hedgerows and a mature oak tree, while offering a range of amenities to meet the needs of all ages. These will include natural play areas, toddler and youth play spaces, a teen zone with informal basketball, and a calisthenics area. Its location close to the primary care centre and town centre will also improve walking and cycling connectivity across the area.

Speaking at the launch, Minister James Browne said:

“I am delighted to mark the sod turning for the Central Boulevard Park which represents one of three projects here in Adamstown being supported by my Department through the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund (formerly the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund). This important community amenity will provide a shared green space for families and residents, while also enabling the delivery of 585 residential units in accordance with the Adamstown Strategic Development Zone planning scheme. Today’s milestone reflects the continued commitment to building not just houses, but sustainable communities with the infrastructure and facilities people need to thrive. I look forward to seeing the park when it’s fully completed and being enjoyed by the residents of Adamstown and the wider South Dublin area”.

Evara are one of the primary developers within the Adamstown Strategic Development Zone. In addition to delivering over 2,200 new homes, the housebuilder has already developed significant local infrastructure, including The Crossings retail park and Adamstown Town Centre, the first new town centre to be built in Ireland since Shannon was developed in the 1960s.

Michael Hynes, CEO of Evara, said: “We are extremely pleased to have started construction on Central Boulevard Park. This is going to be a superb facility, adding significantly to our existing parks and public areas and providing a superb recreational amenity for existing and incoming residents of all ages. At Evara, we don’t just develop new homes, we create new communities and neighbourhoods by ensuring our developments include the amenities and facilities homeowners need to enjoy a high-quality of life. The development of Central Boulevard Park is an important milestone in the continued development of Adamstown, reinforcing the SDZ’s vision of a well-integrated, well-served and sustainable new community. I look forward to the opening of the park later this year or early 2027”

Mayor of South Dublin, Cllr. Pamela Kearns said: “Central Boulevard Park represents a very important addition to the public realm in Adamstown and a significant investment in the quality of life of people living in South Dublin. Access to high-quality, well-designed green spaces is essential to building a better place to live, supporting sustainable communities, encouraging active lifestyles and strengthening social connection for citizens of all ages. This new park will provide a welcoming and inclusive space where families, children and young people can come together, be active and enjoy their local environment, both now and for generations to come.”

Once completed, Central Boulevard Park will play a vital role in Adamstown’s social and recreational infrastructure, supporting both current and future residents.
