The winter maintenance season formally commenced in October and will run until April.

This includes trucks and salt gritters, loading equipment, snow ploughs etc. Road Maintenance staff liaise with Met Eireann daily, and use the latest information to review predicted weather conditions including road surface temperatures, frost/ice formation, rain or snowfall. Salt stocks are replenished and will continue to be topped up throughout the season from National stocks provided by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
When required, gritting will be carried out on all National, Regional and Major Distributer Routes in the county across 7 gritting routes including Lucan, Palmerstown, Clondalkin, Newcastle, Saggart, Rathcoole, Tallaght, Templeogue, Rathfarnham, Ballyboden and the N81. If you require a gritting box please contact your local residents association or your local Councillor who will in turn contact SDCC on your behalf.
