Red Line Book Festival celebrate 15 years

The Red Line Book Festival returns from 12–18 October 2026, celebrating its 15th anniversary with more than 40 events across South Dublin.

Among the major names appearing at Red Line this year is bestselling author Cecelia Ahern, who will sit down with broadcaster and author Ryan Tubridy for a special conversation about her life, writing and career, from the phenomenal success of PS, I Love You to her latest novel, Love Unlocked.

Actor, comedian and author Ardal O’Hanlon will be joined by Rick O’Shea to discuss his new novel, A Plot to Die For, while bestselling author Louise O’Neill will speak to Senator Lynn Ruane about her new memoir, A Bigger Life.

Tallaght-born writer and performer Emmet Kirwan also returns for a special evening combining performance, spoken word and conversation. Broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan will reflect on her life and career with author Vicki Notaro, while internationally acclaimed novelist Sarah Waters will discuss her writing and the history that has shaped her work with historian Dr Mary McAuliffe.

Crime fans can hear bestselling writer Sophie Hannah, the author chosen to continue Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot stories, in conversation with acclaimed Irish crime writer Catherine Ryan Howard.

Poetry is an important part of this year’s programme, with the Red Line’s acclaimed Oíche Filíochta, bringing together established poets and emerging voices. Linked to the annual Red Line Poetry Competition, the evening will celebrate winning and shortlisted work and provide a platform for new writing.

The festival is also supporting emerging creative talent through its residency programme. Folk musician Bríd Lyons is the 2026 Songwriter in Residence, mentoring emerging songwriters over five weeks and helping participants develop their individual voices through workshops in lyric writing and melody. The residency will culminate in a Songwriter Showcase in Áras Chronáin, giving participants the opportunity to perform the work developed during the programme.

Audiences can also experience Reel Flamenco, bringing Irish traditional dance together with Andalusian flamenco in a performance led by dancers and choreographers Juan Carlos Avecilla and Louise O’Sullivan, alongside members of The Rubik’s Ensemble.

With major literary names, live performance, poetry and music on offer, there is plenty to discover during this year’s Red Line Book Festival.
