As first order of business, Cllr Mick Duff was elected as Chair and Noreen Byrne as Vice Chair.

Speaking at the meeting Mayor Pamela Kearns said:

“I am very pleased to attend the first meeting of the South Dublin Local Community Safety Partnership. The new LCSP structure will strengthen how we work together at  a local level, bringing statutory agencies, elected members, and community representatives into a more inclusive and coordinated partnership.

This strengthened collaboration creates real opportunities to build safer, more inclusive, and connected communities. By working collectively, listening to local voices, and aligning our efforts, we can respond more effectively to the priorities that matter most to people across South Dublin. I look forward to seeing the Partnership grow and deliver meaningful benefits for our communities.”

Established under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, the LCSP brings together elected members, An Garda Síochána, the HSE, Tusla, community and voluntary representatives, youth and minority representatives, education, and business stakeholders to work collectively to improve community safety outcomes.

The LCSP model adopts a whole-of-government and community-led approach, recognising that community safety extends beyond policing alone and requires coordinated action across public services and local communities

Welcoming the establishment of the LCSP, Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O’Callaghan, said:

“I am extremely pleased that the South Dublin Local Community Safety Partnership has been established, and its first meeting has taken place. This marks another significant step on the rollout of these partnerships nationwide and this government’s new approach to community safety.”

Colm Ward, Chief Executive, SDCC said:

“Today’s inaugural meeting of the South Dublin Local Community Safety Partnership is an important milestone in strengthening our commitment to safe, inclusive, and connected communities. We have undertaken extensive work to establish strong and representative membership together with governance structures that reflect this whole-of-government approach to community safety. The new partnership will strengthen our ability to work meaningfully and constructively with communities to deliver a local community safety plan that enhances safety and wellbeing for everyone in South Dublin.”

Newly elected chair, Cllr Mick Duff said:

“I’m looking forward to working alongside each member of the LCSP as we continue building strong connections across our community. The commitment, experience and local insight across the partnership are what make this work so valuable, and I’m excited about what we can achieve together. By listening, collaborating, and supporting one another, I’m confident we can make a meaningful difference for our community.”
