Tallaght has undergone significant change, emerging from a small rural village to one of the largest urban centre in the country. Tallaght emerged as one of the New Towns surrounding Dublin City in the 1970’s.
Since the mid 1990’s, Tallaght has emerged as the administrative capital of the county. Emphasis was placed on moving away from the car dependant urban form by adopting a new model and clear vision for the future growth of the Town Centre. Development since then has resulted in an architectural distinctive town centre and strong urban form that promotes people intensive uses consistent with that of a modern city.
