World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2025
History in the Making
South Dublin County Council held its first ever World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, on Sunday 16th November last at St Pius X church Templeogue Dublin .
It was a very unique, while very poignant day, being so mindful of the terrible tragedy and loss of 5 young people’s lives in Co Louth on the eve of World Day of Remembrance.
This event was history in the making for South Dublin County Council and all the Emergency Services from across the island of Ireland who came together as one, to raise awareness about road safety on Irish roads.
Beautiful music renditions by members of choirs from Omagh Musical Society, Music Ministry choir and St Pius X choir enhanced the ceremony which was attended by the Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cllr Pamela Kearns along with other representatives from South Dulin County Council and Fermanagh Omagh District Council.
Road Safety Officer for South Dublin County Council Orlaith Maguire expressed her appreciation to all who participated in this special commemorative service, which is already in planning for 2026, with a special thanks for the parish of St Pius X for hosting us. It was an honour and a privilege to be part of such a poignant and important service, remembering all those that have lost their lives on Irish roads, and their families and loved ones left behind. Unfortunately, as of today, fatalities are higher this year than last with an increase of 9 on this day last year, so I would ask all road users to be mindful of their driving behaviours as we come towards the end of 2025.
