Elections and Voting

The electoral registration process has changed, this is because the Electoral Reform Act 2022 came into effect on Thursday, 13 October 2022.

This change requires additional information such as your PPSN, date of birth and Eircode to complete the registration process. This will allow local authorities to confirm your details and help to ensure the accuracy of the Electoral Register.

How to register or amend your details

You have three options:

1). Through www.voter.ie if you have a verified MyGovId

2). Through www.checktheregister.ie

3). Or by completing one of the forms below and returning it to us at the Franchise Section, South Dublin County Council, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24, D24AX3C

Please note that it is your responsibility to check that all your details and voter status are correct on www.voter.ie or on www.checktheregister.ie

You can register to vote if you are aged 16 or over, but you will not be eligible to vote until you are aged 18. By registering at the age of 16, it means that your local authority will be able to move you to the live electoral register once you reach the age of 18.

Postal vote

If you are unable to vote at your polling station for any of the following reasons:

you have a physical disability / illness and living at home
you have a physical disability / illness and living in a hospital, nursing home or similar institution
