Housing Welfare Social Work
The Housing Welfare Social Work Section employs professional social workers who can provide support to tenants who fit the criteria below. Our Mission Statement is:
“To offer South Dublin County Council tenants a professional housing related social work service within the context of South Dublin County Council’s Housing policy. This service is underpinned by the principles of anti-discrimination, advocacy and empowerment.”
Who can access this service?
Anyone seeking Housing Welfare Social Work Support with regard to housing needs must a tenant in South Dublin County Council and be at least one of the following:
- Local Authority tenant in rent arrears.
- Local Authority tenant in loan arrears.
- Tenants with complex needs that affect their ability to manage their tenancy.
Please note
Cases where priority on the housing list or housing transfer list is being sought on medical grounds are assessed by Medical Officer through the Housing Allocations Section.
Case where priority on the housing transfer list is being sought on anti-social grounds must be referred to the Anti-Social (Allocations Support) Section.
Any child protection issues must be reported to Tusla - Child and Family Agency or An Garda Síochána as the organisation’s responsible for the Protection and Welfare of Children.
How can you access the Housing Welfare social work service?
Please note referrals for Housing Welfare/Social Work Service are only accepted from other agencies and services (i.e. clients cannot refer themselves).
All referrals are screened and prioritised by the Duty Social Worker and discussed with Senior Social Worker.
Cases are then allocated according to priority and availability of social workers.

Housing Welfare office hours are as follows:
Monday-Friday 10.00am-4.00pm (Closed 1-2pm)
