Health and Wellbeing Week

Since 2014 SDCC have provided a Health & Wellbeing Week in South Dublin during the month of September. This event has grown over the years with the establishment of the Interagency Healthy County Steering Group in late 2014.

Objective

The objective of Health & Wellbeing Week is to take one week of the year to highlight all the work going on throughout the year in the county, that aims to improve the Health and Wellbeing of those that live and work in South Dublin.

Our work in this area was recognised in 2016 when South Dublin were successful in being accredited as a World Health Organization “Healthy County”,  We are members of the Healthy Cities and Counties of Ireland Network since its inception in 2016 and play an active role in promoting health and wellbeing at a National level by supporting other Local Authorities to gain their accreditation.

2019’s Health and Wellbeing Week will be launched on Monday 9th September at 11 am in Tallaght Stadium.  The main theme this year is Mental Health & Wellbeing and we have 72 Events taking place around the County.

Our Headline Events are as follows:

Launch Event- Monday 9th September at Tallaght Stadium. We will have over 400 School children from schools across the County on the pitch participating in a range of sport activities. The week will be officially launched by Mayor Cllr Vicki Casserly.

Tallaght Health Fair: Tuesday 10th September in Fettercairn Community Centre 10am – 1pm. This is the biggest health information event in the county, now in its 8th year. There will be a over 70 stands providing information and testing on various health topics from National, regional and local organisations with the HSE and Tallaght Hospital alone having 15 stands on the day.

Mental Health and Resilience Conference:  Wednesday 11th September in Aras Chronain, Clondalkin. This conference has been developed in partnership with South Dublin Partnership Company and is led by the Resilience Worker (an Interagency Post). The headline speaker will be Harry Barry GP.

Radfest: Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September, Whitechurch Library and Rathfarnham Castle. This will be two, half day events providing a range of Physical Activity, Health & Wellbeing Programmes for a range of ages and abilities.

Inspired @ South Dublin: Saturday 14th September, Corkagh Park. South Dublin County Sports Partnership along with Dublin Outdoors will host the first Health & Wellbeing Outdoor Event in the County.
