This International Women’s Day (IWD), we invite you to join us in honouring the incredible women who inspire us every day.
At Ballyroan Library, we’re creating a Tribute Tree, where visitors can add the names of women who have made a difference in their lives—whether they are historical figures, activists, authors, community leaders, family members, or friends.
🌿 Write the name of an inspiring woman on a leaf provided at the library.
🌿 You can include a short message about why they inspire you.

Women’s Work in Jacob’s Biscuit Factory, 1918–1979
Join Dr. Deirdre Foley as she explores the history and conditions of the women workers at the Jacobs Biscuit Factory in Tallaght.
Jacob’s former Biscuit Factory on Bishop Street in inner-city Dublin is one of Ireland’s most historic buildings in a multitude of ways. Home to the production of many well-known baked goods for decades, it was famously also a site of insurrection during the 1916 Rising. Later after the company vacated the premises for a site in Tallaght, it became home to Ireland’s national archive. This talk explores women's working lives in Jacob's across the twentieth century, touching on employment inequality, the marriage bar and many other interesting stories from the Jacob's archive
