SDCC offers tours of the Castle Stables & Courtyards at Rathfarnham.

18 Apr 24

South Dublin County Council has announced a series of free, public tours of the Castle Stables and Courtyards at Rathfarnham.

The objective of the tours is to give the public an understanding of the history of the site, and a sense of its potential as a public amenity.  A public consultation on the master vision for the site will take place during May.

The Castle Stables and Courtyards at Rathfarnham have been earmarked for development as a new public amenity, in the county’s tourism strategy which was published earlier this year.

Announcing the tours, Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cllr Alan Edge said, “Before we invite views on how the Castle Stables and Courtyards at Rathfarnham should be developed, we want to offer the community an opportunity to get to know the site. The tours will offer an unbiased overview of the historical context and there will be an opportunity to see, from the courtyards, the spaces that have been locked up for several decades.  Afterwards, the public will be invited to consider how, once developed, the site can be used for the benefit of the community and visitors to the area.

This is an amazing opportunity for Rathfarnham. I would urge everyone to come along and take part in the tours which are part of an unprecedented level of public consultation to ensure that this development is the best it can be.

“While the tours are free, pre-booking is essential to a manage numbers and ensure people get the most from the tour,” said Cllr Edge.

Tours will last approximately 30 minutes and they will take place between 24th – 27th April. For details of timings and a link to the booking system, see: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/public-consultation-for-the-castle-stables-and-courtyards-at-rathfarnham-tickets-884890369917?aff=oddtdtcreator
