BACKGROUND/INFORMATION
The name "Kiltipper" is thought to have derived from the Irish Cill Tíomáin, which means "the church of Tíomán" (a personal name). The area is located on the edge of the Dublin mountains and has historically been part of a rural landscape, with agriculture and small farming communities being the main livelihood.
Kiltipper Park is approx. 47ha in area and comprises of a large Greenfield site with natural field boundaries and wild hedgerows. The park is managed by South Dublin County Council and is accessed from three sides: Kiltipper Road, Kiltipper Woods and the Bohernabreena Road.
Kiltipper Park, in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, offers an excellent walking or running surface and beautiful views of the city and the Dublin Mountains. The Dublin Mountains Way stretches alongside the River Dodder through the park and meanders around Bohernabreena Reservoir and onwards through the Dublin Mountains.
