SDCC Libraries March Proudly in Dublin Pride Parade
SDCC Libraries took to the streets again this year on June 28th with a new look mobile library, joyful staff, and a powerful message of inclusion and community support. This is the third year the library service has taken part in the parade.
Rolling proudly through O’Connell Street, the Leoraí Leabhar was hard to miss with staff members marching alongside, waving rainbow flags and wearing t-shirts with a simple message - Libraries are for everyone.
“Our libraries are for everyone, and today we’re showing that loud and clear,” said a senior librarian with SDCC Libraries, moments before the parade began. “We’re proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community — not just today, but every day.”
The parade appearance is part of a wider programme of events run by SDCC Libraries throughout June. Branches across the county hosted LGBTQ+-themed storytimes, book displays, film screenings, and arts workshops as part of their Pride Month celebrations. These events were designed to educate, engage, and create safe, welcoming spaces for all members of the community.
Beyond June, South Dublin Libraries remain committed to year-round inclusion. LGBTQ+ collections are maintained and updated regularly, staff receive diversity and inclusion training, and the libraries continue to host events and reading groups celebrating queer voices in literature.
The libraries’ participation also aligns with broader actions by South Dublin County Council, including the flying of Pride and Trans flags at County Hall and the Council’s civic offices. The Council continues to express its ongoing commitment to supporting diversity, equality, and visibility for all residents.
