On Monday the 16 of December 2024 the Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Baby Pereppadan officially opened Jobstown Park. Speaking at the event Mayor, Cllr Baby Pereppadan said

It brings me great joy to warmly welcome you to Jobstown Park today for the official opening of the €2.5 million park upgrade. This celebration marks the completion of a significant enhancement to our community's public space.

Once a 29-acre greenfield site, Jobstown Park has been transformed into a welcoming, secure, and thriving neighbourhood park designed to meet the growing needs of the community. This park is part of a network of park developments strategically planned to enhance pedestrian and biodiversity connectivity across West Tallaght, while improving access to public amenities for the local community.

The upgrade includes focal park entrances, a teen space, an outdoor workout area, a pump track, a natural playground, a dog park, a footpath exercise loop, and a Cycle South Dublin link connecting to the wider cycle infrastructure, along with landscaping and biodiversity enhancements, including the planting of 300 mature trees. Native wildflower seeds from Tymon Park were harvested and sown in Jobstown Park. This innovative approach supports biodiversity and pollinators, as the seeds are well-suited to the local climate and soils.

Mayor, Cllr Baby Pereppadan added:

This project was funded through SDCC’s Capital Funding budget, Sports Capital funding, and cross-departmental collaboration with support from Active South Dublin, Active Travel, Climate Change Section and Sláintecare Healthy Communities provided the funding for the natural playground.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Public Realm Section of South Dublin County Council, who worked alongside Nicholas de Jong Associates Landscape and Urban Design Consultants to carry out the planning, design, and project management. A special thanks also goes to the project contractor, Clonmel Enterprises Ltd, for their excellent work in bringing the project to life.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank the local community and elected members for their input and ongoing support during the design and construction stage.
