Launch of Dementia Friendly Inclusive Community scheme in Ballyroan
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Yvonne Collins, launched the Dementia Friendly Inclusive Community Pilot scheme in Ballyroan Library on Tuesday 7 May.
Mayor Collins was joined at the launch by Cllr Lynn Hagin Meade, Cllr Lilian Gueret and Cllr Ronan McMahon as well as Elaine Leech, Acting Director of Housing Social and Community Development in South Dublin County Council.
The Dementia Friendly Community pilot seeks to promote awareness of the illness and its impacts on family members.
Speaking at the launch, Elaine Leech said:
“The number of people being diagnosed with dementia is increasing year on year and I, like so many of us here today will have people we love who will be affected by this condition during our lifetime. That’s why the Dementia: Understand Together campaign is working towards building dementia inclusive communities.”
The Pilot will include staff training for local businesses, online webinars, community events and social activities.
Criofan Shannon from Life Pharmacy, Ballyroan and Julie Green from the Alzheimer Society of Ireland spoke passionately in relation to the scheme and its likely impact on the community.
We look forward to establishing Ballyroan as a Dementia friendly community.
