“THE WEB” : New Play Unveiling the Human Cost of Displacement

TALLAGHT, DUBLIN – March 21, 2026 – Hopeful Theatre, in partnership with South Dublin County Council (SDCC) Arts Office, The Abbey Theatre, and The Civic Theatre, is proud to present the world premiere of The Web.

Directed by Newton Barabara, The Web is a visceral, ensemble-driven production that explores the invisible threads connecting global policy, family separation, and the quest for dignity within the Irish asylum system. Performed by a diverse cast of artists currently navigating the Direct

Provision system in South Dublin, the play moves beyond headlines to reveal the heartbeat of the people behind the labels.

A Story of Entanglement and Resilience

The play uses the metaphor of a "web" to illustrate the complex reality of modern migration. It follows the journey of individuals caught between the bureaucracy of the present and the ancestral calls of the past. Through a series of seven intense scenes, the audience is invited into the private rooms and public silences of those waiting for the right to belong.

A Landmark Collaboration

This production is the culmination of months of intensive workshops funded by the South Dublin County Council’s commitment to social inclusion and supported by The Civic Theatre and The Abbey Theatre’s Community & Education Department. By utilising the professional space of The Civic Studio, The Web sets a new standard for participatory theatre in Ireland, ensuring that marginalised voices are given the highest level of artistic platform.
