Emerging Talent Bursary Scheme 2025

Purpose of the scheme:

The Emerging Talent Bursary Scheme supports individual athletes in the South Dublin County Council Administrative area, helping cover costs related to training, travel, accommodation, equipment and medical expenses where required, to pursue top-level competition. It is not available for team sport participants.

The total bursary sum countywide for 2025 is €65,000

How will my application be assessed?

Active South Dublin will assess online applications, with the successful applications being brought for noting at the relevant Area Committee Meetings. Successful applicants must acknowledge South Dublin County Council’s support with opportunities for brand ambassador roles through school/community visits and photos.

It is planned the bursary would be awarded in equal amounts in each of the seven Local Electoral areas (LEA) in South Dublin County.  Should one LEA not use all the available funding, it may be distributed to another LEA.

Eligibility Criteria & T&C’s

  • Applicants must be from a sporting code recognised by a National Government Body (NGB) of Sport and/or Sport Ireland. A letter of reference will be required.
  • Applicants who are competing at national, European or international level are eligible to apply, provided they prove a strong connection to South Dublin County (SDC)
    • Examples of connection to SDC include being a resident in the administrative area of SDCC for a minimum of five years
  • Applicants must be at least 14 years of age
  • The bursary is available for eligible categories, including training, travel, accommodation, equipment and necessary medical costs, to support participation in top-level competition
  • Applicants must declare all other sponsorships
  • Successful applicants must sign an agreement to serve as a South Dublin County Council brand ambassador for a minimum of 12 months
  • The recipient must conduct themselves professionally, maintaining a positive and cooperative attitude while upholding the integrity of their NGB, sport, Active South Dublin and SDCC.
  • The grant payment will only be made to an Irish bank account held in the name of the recipient or their parent/legal guardian.
  • Active South Dublin and SDCC shall retain the right to review the terms of the Bursary
  • The recipient may be required to demonstrate that the award has been properly used
  • Active South Dublin and SDCC shall be entitled to recover the award should it be established that it has not been used in an appropriate fashion as detailed on the Bursary Application Form

 

Canvassing of any kind will immediately disqualify the applicant for consideration
