Secondary Schools
Active South Dublin is proud to offer a range of exciting programmes for secondary schools that encourage students to stay active, develop new skills, and build confidence. Our programmes are designed to meet the diverse needs of secondary school students, whether they are new to sport or looking to try something different. We aim to provide opportunities that foster teamwork, self-discipline, and personal growth while promoting a fun and supportive environment.
Our secondary school programmes include:
- Get Rowing with Rowing Ireland
The Get Rowing programme, in partnership with Rowing Ireland, offers secondary schools the chance to introduce students to the sport of rowing. The programme includes both on-water and indoor rowing activities, providing students with a great opportunity to develop teamwork, coordination, and endurance. Whether students are new to rowing or looking to refine their skills, this programme supports all levels and encourages participation in a dynamic and challenging sport.
- Her Moves Dance Programme
Her Moves is a dance programme designed specifically for girls, encouraging them to engage in physical activity through creative movement. The programme focuses on building confidence, improving fitness, and developing teamwork in a fun, non-competitive environment. It’s an excellent way for girls to get moving, express themselves, and enjoy the social aspects of dance.
- Weightlifting Programmes for Girls
Our weightlifting programmes for girls focus on strength training, fitness, and personal development. These programmes are designed to introduce young women to weightlifting in a safe and supportive environment. Students learn the fundamentals of weightlifting, including proper form, technique, and the importance of strength training for overall health and fitness. The aim is to build confidence, promote self-empowerment, and encourage lifelong fitness habits.
- Martial Arts
Martial Arts is a popular choice for secondary school students, offering a combination of physical fitness, self-discipline, and mental focus. Through our martial arts programme, students can engage in different disciplines, such as kickboxing, where they will build strength, endurance, and confidence. Our experienced instructors focus on technique, discipline, and respect, providing students with valuable life skills that extend beyond the mat.
Other Programmes
Active South Dublin also offers additional sports opportunities for secondary schools, including activities such as Basketball, Cricket, Rugby, Gaelic Games, and Soccer. These programmes are delivered by our sports officers, who are co-funded by South Dublin County Council. If your school is interested in any of these activities, please reach out to us for more details.
We are committed to ensuring that secondary school students have access to a broad range of activities that promote physical health, personal growth, and teamwork. If there are other sports or activities your school would like to explore, such as Volleyball, Frisbee, or Cycling, please let us know, and we will work to support your request.
As with our primary school programmes, we encourage teachers and staff to get involved in training for some of these activities. The training is either free or heavily subsidised, ensuring that schools can continue to offer these opportunities for years to come.
