Sanctuary Runners

A large group of Sanctuary Runners crossing under a red inflatable finish arch at an outdoor event supported by Active Cities Dublin. The runners, dressed in matching blue t-shirts, are jogging and walking along a paved path on a bright sunny day. Volunteers and supporters stand on the sidelines, with banners and signs promoting inclusion and community through sport. The atmosphere is vibrant and celebratory.

Citywest Transit Hub Park Run Initiative

Active South Dublin, in collaboration with Active Cities, the HSE, Sanctuary Runners, and Park Run, has introduced a weekly Park Run programme to support residents of the Citywest Transit Hub. Many residents from this International Protection Accommodation (IPA) centre face limited access to physical activity spaces. To address this, transport is provided to ensure they can participate in the Dodder Valley Park Run.

So far, over 250 residents have taken part in this initiative, benefiting from increased opportunities for physical activity and a chance to connect with the local community. The programme also promotes integration by creating a welcoming space where residents and locals can engage together.

Sanctuary Runners, a key partner in this programme, use running and walking as a way to bring people together in solidarity, friendship, and respect. Their work fosters an inclusive environment where asylum seekers, refugees, and locals can share experiences and build connections.
