Petanque

Petanque: – The Game of Skill and Relaxation Petanque (also known as boules) is a simple and enjoyable outdoor game that can be played by people of all ages and abilities. Originating in France, Petanque is a great way to stay active, spend time outdoors, and meet new people in a friendly and social atmosphere.

In South Dublin County, we are proud to have two fantastic Petanque courts:

  • Tymon North Park
  • Griffeen Valley Park, home to the Griffeen Valley Petanque Club

Whether you’re new to Petanque or already love the game, these courts are the perfect place to enjoy this relaxing and fun activity.

What Is Petanque?

Petanque is an easy-to-learn game played by throwing metal balls (called boules) toward a small wooden target ball (called a cochonnet). The goal is to get your boule closer to the cochonnet than your opponent’s. It’s a mix of skill, strategy, and social fun, making it a great activity for families, friends, and individuals.

Petanque is not just a game – it’s a wonderful way to stay active and social. Here are a few reasons to give it a try:

Join the Griffeen Valley Petanque Club

If you’re interested in playing Petanque regularly, why not join the Griffeen Valley Petanque Club? The club meets for games and lessons at Griffeen Valley Park on:

  • Sundays at 12:00 PM
  • Wednesdays at 6:30 PM

All are welcome – whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player. The club provides boules and training, so you don’t need any equipment to get started.
