Community Climate Action Programme Award Nomination

SDCC's delivery of the Community Climate Action Programme recognised at the 2025 All Ireland Community and Council Awards

SDCC’s delivery of Phase 1 of the Community Climate Action Programme was nominated in the Best Energy Smart Initiative Category at the 2025 All Ireland Community and Council Awards in Cork, on February 22nd, 2025.

This category recognises pioneering or innovative approaches to sustainable energy.

Energy has been at the forefront of projects supported with funding through the Community Climate Action Programme. In all, 21 of the 28 funded projects take energy action. This helps to reduce climate damaging emissions both from the SDCC emissions profile and those outside of the local authority’s control.

Work is reflective of the key facets of energy action. Solar Panels, EV charging, Heat Pumps, Internal Lighting Retrofit to LED, Floodlight Retrofit to LED, and Insulation all feature.

The projects help to meet actions in both South Dublin County Council’s Climate Action Plan 2024-2029 and the local authority’s County Development Plan 2022-2028, which both place climate action front and centre.

Delivery of the projects is being undertaken by a range of community organisations, such as sports clubs, scouts, charities, social enterprises, and community facilities to name a few, many of whom are entering this space for the first time and delivering innovative action.

Phase 1 has created a community of climate action across the 7 South Dublin Local Electoral Areas which will be built upon with Phase 2 of the Programme in 2025. With funding coming from the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications through the national Climate Action Fund, these local, vanguard community projects in South Dublin form a key part of SDCC’s ongoing climate action response in South Dublin County.
