Public lighting is one of South Dublin County Council’s most significant energy users. Retrofitting the traditional Sodium Oxide (SOX) lamps to Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a key action in meeting our energy efficiency and carbon emissions targets. Phase 1 of the public lighting upgrade programme (2014-2020) is complete, which saw 9,689 55w SOX lamps being replaced with more energy efficient LEDs. Phase 2 (2021-2026) has begun and will see an additional 9,380 SOX fittings due for upgrade to LED. Currently there are 30,777 lights in the County, 16,404 of which are LED. |
