World Water Day 21st of March

World Water Day

South Dublin County Council (SDCC) took part in World Water Day on Friday the 21st of March. World Water Day first began in 1993 and is vital for highlighting the importance of fresh water around the world.

SDCC organised an event on the River Camac in Corkagh Park. We organised a litter pick to clean the river and the surrounding area and a kick sample so we could investigate how healthy the river is and if the needed biodiversity was present. We were joined at this event by Friends of The Camac, Clondalkin Tidy Towns and the Local Authorities Waters Programme. We also invited 5th class students from Clonburris National School who helped us in our activities for the day and got to see some of the wildlife in the river from the kick samples.

The kick samples done at this event highlighted how the river is doing. The water quality on the River Camac when it goes through Corkagh Park is in a poor state. A test done by the students showed good signs with healthy macroinvertebrate present in the river, yet this is not enough as of yet due to the pollution that has taken place on the River Camac.
