A working group on the issue of pluvial flood risk (flooding caused by rainfall) has been established with membership coming from the Council’s Climate Action, Drainage Operations, Planning, and Flood Alleviation Schemes offices. Urban creep and promotion of Sustainable Development Systems in the design process are managed through the planning process overseen by the Council. Daily flood forecasting and guidance are currently being trialled through a partnership with Met Eireann.
Additionally, the roll-out of the Climate Action Regional Offices (CARO) WIRE App will help identify areas where pluvial flooding occurs, where practitioners can input real time flood information, building up a database of historical risk.
