South Dublin County Council established an internal team to identify suitable locations for demonstration projects utilising Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).

The team identified several locations with surface water drainage issues and are currently developing design options and preliminary cost estimates.

Solutions under consideration include permeable asphalt, tree pits, rain gardens and swales. Ground investigations are required prior to progressing to a detailed design.

SuDS demonstration projects have been delivered with funding from the Climate Innovation Fund including permeable paving at Lucan Demesne and the Tymon Park swale.

A Sustainable Drainage Explanatory Design and Evaluation Guide and a separate SuDS Householder’s Guide and a supporting video for Householders were produced in 2022.
