The Local Authority Retrofit Programme requires local authorities to upgrade their housing stock to a B2 standard. Social housing upgrades under this programme can result in significant energy and cost savings and improved comfort level for residents. The work includes retrofits of a specified number of properties identified each year, complemented by a windows and doors replacement programme.
In 2021 South Dublin County Council began carrying out deep energy retrofits on 117 housing units and this work is ongoing as part of a 10-year national Retrofit Strategy from the Department of Housing, Heritage and Local Government.
In 2022 the programme of deep retrofits will continue. Pre-works BER surveys were carried out on 150 houses in Q1&2 of 2022.
