Public bodies must report their energy performance annually using the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s Monitoring & Reporting (M&R) System, with an obligation for a 50% energy efficiency improvement by 2030.
South Dublin County Council enters this yearly data into the M&R system in order to comply with the reporting requirements of the EU’s Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), transposed into Irish legislation in S.I. 426 of 2014.
Data such as the annual energy consumption in GWh, CO2 emissions and the activity metrics (which quantifies the level of activity undertaken by the organisation for that year) are submitted and used to evaluate current performance. The M&R system then reports our progress towards our energy efficiency target.
For 2020, energy efficiency has improved by 45.7% against the baseline, with a consumption of 39 GWh of primary energy, equivalent to 6,899 tonnes of CO2. It is important to acknowledge that this figure is representative of energy consumed during the Covid-19 pandemic, when some office and facility-based services were curtailed. All energy consumption data and energy performance metrics have been reported for the 2021 reporting cycle.
