Composting is a natural process of decomposition that turns organic waste such as leaves, grass and other garden materials into a dark, crumbly, and earthy smelling material called compost. Compost is rich in nutrients and full of life and when used in your garden and on your plants, it feeds the ecosystem of the soil and slowly releases nutrients that plants can absorb.
A leaf composting programme has been introduced in South Dublin. Commencing on 1st September 2020, South Dublin County Council have a contract with Oxygen to collect and compost leaves in the county administrative area. In 2020, 1,074 tonnes of leaves were composted.
