South Dublin County Council manages over 1,500 hectares of parks and open spaces. We have established a grassland management regime and decreased the mowing regime to help establish habitats for wildlife and nesting birds.
The council currently manages 163 hectares of pollinator friendly meadows. We have signed up to the National Pollinator Plan and in 2021 we published our 5-year South Dublin County Council Pollinator Action Plan which sets out a broad range of actions that the Council has committed to implementing over the next five years. All actions are based on reversing the decline in bees in Ireland
South Dublin County Council have received funding from NPWS to undertake a survey of pollinator sites in:
- Tymon Park
- Waterstown Park
- Vesey Park
- Lucan Demesne.
The first phase of the survey of pollinator sites in 3 parks has been completed (Tymon, Waterstown, Lucan Demesne). The 2nd phase of the survey is ongoing.
