Delivering Real Change

Delivering Real Change

Reducing emissions across the four key sectors of Residential, Commercial, Transport and Local Authority activity will be essential to achieving the Decarbonisation Zone (DZ) targets. The below figures highlight the priority actions identified for Clondalkin and the impact these measures could have when successfully delivered. While many of the highest-impact actions sit beyond the direct control of SDCC, lead stakeholders and delivery partners have been identified for each measure to help guide implementation and support collaboration.

Together, these actions have the potential to reduce emissions within the DZ by 36.83% (40,451 tCO₂e), representing a significant step towards the overall target of a 51% reduction. The remaining emissions savings are expected to come from continued electricity grid decarbonisation, along with additional measures focused on reducing emissions from Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs).

Achieving this level of change will require substantial investment. As many of the proposed solutions rely on emerging or low-carbon technologies, the total investment needed could be approximately €599 million. These estimates are based on current benchmarks and assumptions and include both the expected costs and carbon-reduction benefits of each action. Details of the methodology are provided in the appendices. While these targeted interventions are critical to meeting Clondalkin’s climate goals, they are only part of the solution. Improving energy efficiency and encouraging energy-conscious behaviours remain equally important. Ultimately, reducing overall energy and fuel demand across all sectors will play a fundamental role in creating a more sustainable, low-carbon future for Clondalkin
