Walking & Walking groups
Walking is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to stay active, improve mental well-being, and connect with your community. Whether you’re looking to boost your fitness, enjoy the beauty of South Dublin’s local areas, or meet new people, walking groups offer the perfect opportunity to get moving in a relaxed, social environment.
Get Ireland Walking is a national initiative promoting walking for everyone, with a focus on making it easy and accessible. Here in South Dublin, we’re proud to support this movement by encouraging the growth of local walking groups and initiatives. Walking together not only improves physical health but also provides a space for conversation and connection, helping to create stronger, healthier communities.
Walk and Talk: A Community Success Story
One standout example of our walking initiatives is the Walk and Talk groups. Supporting local community leader Stephen Brennan, he has been able to establish six thriving groups across South Dublin County. These walks, typically covering 5-6 km with varied routes, focus on both physical activity and the joy of meeting others. It’s a simple yet powerful way to combine fitness with social interaction.
