Parkrun
Parkrun is a free, weekly 5k community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer, or simply spectate. Held every Saturday at 9:30 AM, Parkrun is open to everyone, regardless of fitness level. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking to get more active, Parkrun is all about enjoying the fresh air, being part of a supportive community, and setting personal goals.
In South Dublin County, Active South Dublin has played a key role in bringing Parkrun to five wonderful park locations: Corkagh Park, Tymon Park, Dodder Valley Park, Griffeen Valley Park, and Waterstown Park. Each park offers a unique route, so no matter where you are, there’s a local event you can participate in. Additionally, Griffeen Valley Park hosts a Junior Parkrun, a 2k event specially designed for 4-14-year-olds and their families. Junior Parkrun takes place every Sunday at 9:30 AM, providing a fun, family-friendly way to get active together.
Parkrun is more than just a race—it’s about building friendships, creating a sense of community, and celebrating milestones. After the run, many participants gather for a coffee or a celebratory cake, making it a social occasion as much as a fitness one. It’s these simple moments that help foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all.
Best of all, Parkrun is completely free. All you need to do is register once on the Parkrun website at www.parkrun.ie and print your barcode to take part. There’s no need to sign up each week—just show up, and you’re ready to go! Whether you're aiming for a personal best, enjoying a relaxed stroll, or volunteering to support others, Parkrun is a fantastic way to get active in your local park.
