Pre-draft Public Consultation Stage 3

Clondalkin Local Area Plan - 3rd Public Consultation Now Over

Thank you to all who attended the four community workshops that took place on the 28th and 29th January in Clondalkin.

These workshops followed stakeholder consultation carried out in November and December 2024, the purpose of which was to reach a general consensus on the approach to transport options for the local area plan. The feedback from the stakeholder meetings was put forward at the workshops in January for further consideration. For clarity, no bus gates, pedestrianisation of streets or changes in the one-way system were included in the revised options.

The feedback from this 3rd round of public consultation will inform the drafting of the Clondalkin Local Area Plan (LAP), which will go out on formal Public Consultation, intended for Q2 of this year as part of a statutory process. The public will be invited to make submissions on all aspects of the draft local area plan, including transport and movement, conservation, green infrastructure and urban design. The council will then consider the submissions received and present a report to the councillors, who decide on whether to adopt, amend or reject the draft plan.

Local Area Plans are policy documents setting the framework for development including for the assessment of planning applications. Where potential projects are identified in the LAP or elsewhere, they are subject to a separate public consultation process at the detailed design stage.

January 2025 Community Workshops

A third round of public consultation to review the movement options as part of the wider preparation of the Draft Clondalkin Local Area Plan started with one-to-one stakeholder engagement in November 2024. This round of consultation will conclude with four in person workshop to be held on the 28th and 29th January 2025. This is an opportunity for the community to review and comment on the emerging options and to engage further with the plan making process.

All workshops will be round table beginning with a review of revised options for movement reflecting feedback, followed by participant discussion on the prioritisation of actions. After a short break participants will then explore high-priority implementations and prototype how they can be implemented. Finally, at the end of the workshop there will be a Q&A to address specific community questions. Council staff who are working on the Clondalkin LAP along with consultants will be available for 45 minutes after the event to discuss particular issues.

Maps will be also provided on the day to raise awareness and bring about discussion. Maps that will be provided include:

  • Potential 30kph Zone
  • Cycle Infrastructure Map
  • Potential Permeability Routes (Subject to Further Consultation)
  • Potential Pedestrian Crossings
  • Safe Routes to Schools Map (Existing and Potential)
  • Village Enhancement Scheme Maps

The options which will be shown on the maps at the workshops reflect the feedback from the one-to-one stakeholder meetings held in November and December 2024. For clarity, no bus gates, pedestrianisation of streets or changes in the one-way system will be included in the revised options.
