D24 Neighbourhood Cycle Network Phase 1
D24 Neighbourhood Cycle Network Phase 1
The D24 Neighbourhood Network Active Travel Scheme is a scheme constructed by South Dublin County Council, funded by the National Transport Authority. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive active travel network in the Dublin 24 area, connecting smaller roads to main roads with cycling paths and safer crossings. The scheme encourages cyclists of all ages and abilities to confidently choose cycling for both commuting and leisure by providing dedicated paths on smaller roads, where previously cyclists had to merge with car traffic.
The scheme employs quick-build measures such as bolt-down kerbs with bollards at junctions, planters, and line markings. These measures enable rapid construction of the cycle track network and help reduce vehicle speeds, thereby decreasing the likelihood of accidents. Safe crossings are also implemented to support walking and running, ensuring that pedestrians and runners are not discouraged from using these paths.
