Airton Road Extension
Airton Road Extension consists of improved walking and cycling links from Airton road through to Belgard Road and Cookstown. The extension connects Airton Road to Fourth Avenue and Cookstown Estate Road junction.
On June 25th 2025, Airton Road extension was officially opened. During the opening ceremonies, speeches were made by SDCC Mayor Cllr Baby Pereppadan and Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage of Ireland James Browne. This scheme will will increase connectivity and unlock residential development potential, with regards to adjoining brownfield sites.
SDCC would like to acknowledge the work of Murphy International Ltd who were the main contractors for this scheme and DBFL were the design consultants and all other stakeholders for their hard work and commitment and smooth delivery of this scheme.
The decision to proceed with this scheme was taken on 3rd November 2022 and recorded on the SDCC Chief Executive Order system.
The EIA and AA screening decision was taken in 2022 and recorded on the SDCC Chief Executive Order system.
