South Dublin County Council is committed to leading on sustainable development and driving progress on the 2030 Agenda to meet Ireland’s commitments.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by world leaders in 2015 and provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere.

Agenda 2030 and Ireland’s Second National Implementation Plan for the Sustainable Development Goals 2022-2024 recognise the crucial role that local authorities play in sustainable development. South Dublin County Council has reaffirmed its commitment to leading on implementation and localisation of the SDGs in our Climate Action Plan 2024 – 2029, which aligns each action of the Climate Action Plan with SDGs. To achieve better policy cohesion for sustainable development, South Dublin County Council ensures alignment of its policies and plans with the SDGs, including the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028 and the South Dublin Economic and Community Plan 2024-2030.

As part of our corporate planning process, we have mapped the strategic objectives of this Plan to show how they will contribute to achieving the SDGs. This mapping exercise identified XX SDGs that this Plan will actively support. We will continue to use the SDGs to guide our work over the next five years.
