Lucan Village Green
Lucan Village Green
The Village Green has been the heart of Lucan for hundreds of years. The time has come to give this wonderful space a new lease of life and ensure that the green lung of the village can cater for the needs of Luconians for many years to come. The Council is developing a scheme to provide an inviting space which, through the use of carefully selected materials, will provide a year-round area for people to enjoy the open space.
The design encourages daily use of the Green by providing a fully accessible north-south route through the park, removing the need for people to use the narrow footpath on the western side of Dispensary Lane. The reconfiguration of the southern boundary wall will increase the interaction between those in the Green and those passing by and will provide a welcome refuge for people as they live, shop, and work in Lucan village.
The design proposes to increase the interaction with the Griffeen River as it passes through the park by providing river lever access at two locations. A bandstand will be provided within the Green which can function as a centre point for informal gatherings or during festive occasions.
