Airton Road extension- Use of Recycled Aggregates
Airton Road extension- Use of Recycled Aggregates
South Dublin County Council are currently in construction of an extension to Airton Road that would connect Belgard Road to Cookstown Industrial estate. This scheme is in collaboration with DBFL who are providing Design, Contract Administration, and Resident Engineering services during the construction phase. Murphy International Limited are the appointed contractor and work on-site.
Sustainable measures have been put into place for construction of this new road and to reduce carbon footprint. Concrete was collected from the demolished warehouse on-site, this concrete was reused to be turn into recycled aggregates for the new road. The recycled aggregates were processed and tested on-site to meet TII standards. By using this approach, a reduction an estimated 200 HGV trips and 9 tonnes of embodied carbon has been made. Overall, these actions were made to lessen the environmental impact of the project’s construction stage.
